A baby is born and his mother refuses to have anything to do with him. At the same time she accepts his brother and sister. As the baby grew to a young man, raised by his father, he always hoped for some recognition by his mother. His mother then committed suicide shattering his hopes. This is his story of discovery and acceptance.
The Long Way Home eBook Brooks Stonestreet
Brooks Stonestreet obviously has a lot to write about. Some people are just born to express themselves that way.I found an interesting reluctance in his style. The third-person narrative and avoidance of digging deeply into the psyche of his main character (himself) was different and fascinating. Instead of seizing the opportunity to emote, the author gives you a pencil sketch and lets you fill in the color and detail. In this way, I think the quiet, non-judgemental dignity of his father shines through in his writing.
There is a subtle refinement in style and substance that happens as the book carries on and you get deeper into the story. Obviously, there is a lot more to tell and the author is, sentence-by-sentence, getting more comfortable in his own shoes. I was disappointed to reach the end and am excited to pick up the journey in volume 2.

Went to high school with Brooks and bought it originally to support him - but it was a very well told story! Go Brooks!
